Are Greek-Lettered Organizations/Secret Societies Founded on Christian Principles?

What exactly are Christian principles? Integrity, humanitarianism, gentleness, love, etc. are ALL Christian principles, but having these traits are NOT indicative of a relationship with Jesus Christ! There are people who are genuinely good people, but they deny the very existence of God, therefore, they are NOT Christian, although their personality may display certain “Christian principles”. Also, it is the name of Jesus (in reference to Him being the Messiah) that indicates Christianity. In most, if not all of the rituals, references to Jesus alone cannot be found. The Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 11:14, “And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.” Many times things that are not of God are not so easily noticed simply because Satan is really crafty at portraying himself to be something good or pertaining to “Christian principles” because just like the Bible says, he portrays himself to be an “angel of light.”

And these organizations do mention some level of a “spirit” but the ritual books do not say only through Jesus Christ. And John 14:6 says, Jesus answered, "I am The Way and The Truth and The Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."  So, IF it were “Christian” as often claimed, there would be no need for rituals or ritualistic ceremonies. There would be no speaking the words “in the name of______”, “the spirit of _____,”   “I pledge my loyalty to _____.” There would be no need for a false god to be a basis or attached at all. There would be no need to kneel, bow down, etc. As Christians the ONLY one we're to bow to, is Jesus, correct??

I serve God through my organization.

Let’s be real. Before you do any “service through your organization for God,” do you really make a disclaimer saying, “I’m doing this service in the name of Jesus and not in the name of the fraternity/sorority I’m with?" And even if you did, would the people who see you working really see Jesus at work or would these organizations take the praise and credit? When you're out in your sorority or fraternity paraphernalia serving, what name is being promoted? In Genesis 11:4 they were building the Tower of Babel and said, “...Let us make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.” God was so very displeased with these people. Many people are fooled into thinking these organizations are godly because they do community service, but this is not proof that they are godly. Wicked people do good things for people too.

Furthermore, you cannot serve God in something He’s not in. That’s like a bank robber saying, God blessed me with this money. Or a drug dealer or sex trafficker saying God blessed them with the money they exploited and perverted people to obtain. People seem to conveniently forget The Bible says satan is the “god of this age”…2 Corinthians 4:4, “whose has blinded the minds of those who do not believe. They are unable to see The light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” Now we know Satan is NOT more powerful than God, God is sovereign. However, in His same sovereignty, The Lord has given the devil a level of authority, for a time. And he knows his time is short. 1 Peter 5:8 warns us, “Be alert, be on watch! Your enemy, the Devil, roams around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.”  We are told this because we have to be AWARE of what’s behind the scenes. And guess who makes us aware? JESUS! Holy Spirit leads us into ALL truth (as said in John 16:13), IF we actually seek The Lord, ask Him AND listen for HIS answer.

Satan majorly influences opinions, views, ideals, the world’s philosophies, education, and even religion…including Christianity, especially Christianity actually. Because he seeks to try destroy Truth because is a liar.  Think not? Then why does the church look no different from the world? Homosexuality, adultery, depression, suicide, abortion, and the list goes on and on. And the same applies to infiltration of secret societies in the church, from freemasonry to greek letter organizations. You can to try label anything with His name, but it does NOT make Him The Author of it, nor Him partaking in it. And the devil is deceiving MANY into thinking that if someone talks about Christ, or uses the term “Christian”, uses a scripture, that it must be God. You can say “God this”, and “God that,” but what “god" are you referring to??  Remember 1 John 4:1, Jesus warns us to test spirits. And when you test these organizations against HIS Word, it shows it is not of The One True God.

It’s not that serious, when I say certain things, I don’t mean them, and my allegiance is still to God. He knows my heart.

Jesus says in Matthew 12:36-37, “You can be sure that on the Judgment Day you will have to give account of every useless word you have ever spoken. Your words will be used to judge you—to declare you either innocent or guilty.” So even if you don’t think that what you say and go through is a big deal, Jesus does!

How would you feel if your wife or husband told you that even though they said vows to you on your wedding day, they really didn’t mean it? Or what if your spouse had an affair and when you found out, shrugged it off and said “they didn’t mean it.” Would you just accept either of those scenarios, when the person did actions in opposite of what they said?  The same concept is true here. The Lord has given us His Word to obey for our protection, and we cannot disregard obedience to Jesus, by just saying “I said or did it, but I didn’t mean it”. James 1:8 “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways” It is contradictory and doubleminded to say you follow Jesus Christ, but do something the opposite. In addition, 1 Thessalonians 5:22, says “flee every appearance of evil.” Another version says, “Stay away from every kind of evil.” And let's not forget, Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? So when you say, God knows your heart...you're right He does.

Many (men and women) who gladly tout the words of the Invictus poem. Some even tattoo it on themselves. “I am the master of my fate I am the captain of my soul.” Part of that poem even says, “I thank whatever gods may be for my unconquerable soul.”  Tell me where Jesus is in that?  And as a believer you think that it doesn’t matter to The Lord that you speak of other “gods,” and also pledge your life to them, which is what happens when you join the organization. We can tell you emphatically, it DOES matter to The Lord, and it angers and hurts Him. Instead of it being about how you...have you stopped to think about how Jesus feels??

I’ve never bowed down or worshipped another god in my organization.

Worship is not limited to physically bowing, but also through submission and sacrifice. Throughout your initiation, I am positive you, in some way or another, had to show submission and make certain sacrifices for your organization, whether that be through finances, time, relationships, sleep, health, etc. Some people literally risk their lives to become members of these organizations by way of hazing practices. Romans 12:1 says, “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.” We present our bodies a living sacrifice by making ourselves open to whatever God is tasking us with (sacrificing time by staying up late/waking up early to pray or study the Bible, “beating” our bodies into submission through fasting, sacrificing finances by faith, etc). These are all comparable to what happens when a candidate is “on line,” (sacrificing time by staying up late/waking up early for either hazing or to study materials, literally “beating” our bodies into submission through hazing (whether mental or physical), sacrificing finances for dues or for big brothers/sisters or line brothers/sisters), and these things don’t happen for the sake of Christ, but for the sake of the fraternity/sorority, i.e. worship!

Now in reality, you did bow down to another god when you knelt down in a ceremony of some type, and by joining and becoming one with the organization. Oaths were spoken over you (which you never read because you weren’t allowed to have the ritual book yet), that you willingly of your own free will, said “I do.” to. Meaning WHATEVER the organization represents, adheres to, etc., you are now that as well.  And Exodus 23:32 tells us. “Do not make a covenant with them or their gods.”  Think about this way…when you get married to a man or woman; by joining together in marriage, you take on whatever they have and whoever they are. When you say those vows, you become one with them, with the good and bad. You don't stand and call out every detail of their life during the ceremony…you are, by your own free will, accepting whatever they come with. If they're lazy, you're choosing to take that on. If they are mean, you’re connecting your life to that. It’s no different with these organizations…you are essentially “marrying” yourself to the entity and whatever spirits they come with.

And your ignorance of not knowing every little detail does not mean you’re not accountable for your actions. That is why the Lord says in Hosea 4:6, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” And God goes on to say in that scripture…” because you [the priestly nation] have rejected knowledge.” We as people, reject knowledge. We don’t seek it. We don’t ask questions. We don’t study (not just read it) The Bible enough to be able to even stop and think…how does line up with The Jesus I claim to follow?

There are godly and anointed people in these organizations (e.g. my pastor, gospel singers, MLK Jr., my husband, my wife, my mother, my father, etc.) so it can’t be bad.

The only one we are supposed to be looking to as The Standard is Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:12 says, “Not that we dare to classify or compare ourselves with some of those who are commending themselves. But when they measure themselves by one another and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding.”

These people you are referring to are just that...people. As long as we are flesh, we are capable of missing the mark and making mistakes. It is completely unwise to model or judge oneself after another man or woman. It goes back to what we've stated in response to other statements, just because something or someone appears "good' does not make it of God (and we're talking of Jesus Christ The Messiah). And it doesn't matter if someone is gifted, talented, famous, a great orator, a preacher/pastor, etc. Looking to other people as the standard, is in and of itself idolatry. ONLY Christ is The Standard, and I don’t recall Him ever saying He was in a fraternity. In fact, in Mark 7:6-9, Jesus firmly rebukes following the traditions of men and rejecting the commandments of God.

I disagree with certain things or I don’t participate in certain things, but it’s not serious enough to denounce.

You cannot simply disassociate yourself from the ungodly parts of these organizations. You cannot pick and choose which parts of God's Word to obey. 1 Thessalonians 5:22 says, “Abstain from all appearance of evil.” If you are aware that it is ungodly, you are directly and intentionally disobeying God. Saying it’s not serious enough to denounce is pretty much saying that God will overlook ungodliness just like you are doing. Habakkuk 1:13 says, “God’s eyes are too pure to look on evil…” If He won’t even look upon evil, why do you think it’s okay to be a part of something where evil is so prevalent?

Additionally, you joined in covenant with the organization, hence the rituals performed. A covenant by definition is an agreement, a contract, a bond, indenture, etc. One organization even asks you outright to "subjugate" yourself to it, which means to bring under domination or control. This is what happens in every single one, and that is not something you can simply dismiss by saying you won't go to meetings anymore, or wear paraphanalia anymore, etc. The enemy will eventually pull you back in since you are tied to it. If The Lord has shown you things are not right...LISTEN and OBEY. Remove yourself completely, both spiritually and naturally on paper.

What are these organizations connected to?

To be clear...there is only ONE GOD. He is Alpha and Omega. The Holy One of Israel. The Creator of the Heavens and Earth. King of Kings and Lord of Lords. The Lion and The Lamb. Yet, these organizations mention, promote, and connect to polytheism, which in essence is the spirit of antichrist. These are ancient spirits (demons), disguised and worshipped for centuries. It's cunning deception to get people to think all this is harmless, and has no affect on their relationship with God. The following false gods are attached to each organization (some are shown on their crest, others are mentioned in their rituals, etc.)

  • Alpha Phi Alpha: Sphinx - Egyptian mythical creature  /  Horus - Egyptian sun god

  • Alpha Kappa Alpha: Qetesh- Semitic goddess of Syrian or Sumeria, carried into Egypt – goddess of beauty, love, and lust  /  Atlas (shown on crest) - Greek god / Themis - Titan goddess (mentioned in the ritual book)

  • Delta Sigma Theta: Minerva- Roman goddess of wisdom (shown on crest)

  • Iota Phi Theta: Centaur - Egyptian mythical creature (shown on crest)

  • Kappa Alpha Psi:  Apollo, - Greek god  /  Thoth - Egyptian god

  • Omega Psi Phi: Anubis- Egyptian god (depicted with a head of a jackal, which is a dog) / Minerva- Roman goddess of wisdom (rituals refer to spirit of Omega as a “she”)

  • Phi Beta Sigma: Horus - Egyptian god, Pallas Athena- Greek goddess of wisdom

  • Sigma Gamma Rho: Maat - Egyptian goddess

  • Zeta Phi Beta: Bastet - Egyptian cat-headed goddess

Well I don’t agree with what you're saying...

We're not asking you to agree with us. Don’t take our word for it. Search for yourself! We actually encourage you to do so! 2 Thessalonians 5:21 says, “but test all things.” Also Acts 17:11 says, “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”

At the direction of The Lord, we are sharing truth of The Word and our testimonies, because we have been there. We know Holy Spirit has or will reveal truth to you, so please don't close your heart. Go back and read those rituals and really compare them to The Word. Strongly ponder, would it really be worth risking your soul for the sake of maintaining membership in a fraternity/sorority? Would being "greek" on earth be worth losing your soul for? God is calling us to a place of complete surrender and sacrifice, which is directly tied to our salvation.  Jesus sacrificed everything for us! Are we really willing to forsake everything for Him?

I renounced in my heart, and that's all I need to do.

First, let us say, it is awesome you've realized being in a greek organization/secret society is not of The Lord. So then we must ask, if God has shown you the truth, why are you not following Him and completely removing yourself from the organization?  Jesus said in John 10:27, His sheep knows His Voice, He knows them, AND they follow. Partial obedience is still disobedience. When you joined the organization you willingly said the rituals, participated in a public probate show, signed a certificate of membership, proudly kept your membership card in your wallet, sang the songs and/or chants, yelled the calls, posted photos, threw up signs, etc. All of which was done to publicly show you were of that organization. So why would you then be silent, and do less for God?  By not willing to completely separate yourself, it indicates you are still tied to the organization, and are willing to leave the door open for you to return OR for the enemy to lure you back in. You yolked yourself to the organization via those rituals. Just like with a power of attorney, you did hand over spiritual rights. It's also like when someone says they're separated but not divorced...which means they're still married. Your attachment to the organizaton must be severed, both spiritually and naturally. Therefore we strongly encourage you to publicly declare God's truth by way of contacting the applicable organization in writing to sever membership permanently. Remember obedience is better than sacrifice as stated in 1 Samuel 15:22.
